I have had a love affair with photography for over 35 years. Yes, I'm old school enough to have created images with film, and developed negatives and prints in a darkroom using alchemical soups. Back in those days, I was enamored with alternative processes, especially hand-coloring black & white prints, and was even featured in a book published on hand-coloring in the mid '90's. My work was featured in several photography magazines as well back in those days.
Fast forward to the digital era; I closed the door on my darkroom and never looked back. It was an explosion of creative possibilities that didn't involve toxic chemicals - and I was hooked. I fell in love with color and all the ways to express myself in that realm. The images you will see here are a mixture of old & new; with many being created digitally, some digitally scanned silver prints, and hand-colored ones as well. I also have plans to resurrect, via scanning, my collection of hand-colored silver prints, and plan to offer those originals in limited editions - so stay tuned!
Thank you so very much for your interest in my work - enjoy!
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
Travel! I thrive on new adventures in new locales and recording what I see with my camera; be it expansive vistas or the minutia of daily life in a different culture. Mexico, Ireland, Paris & New Orleans are some of the places that I have explored. Additionally, portrait photography has been a natural doorway to personal work featuring women, or goddesses, as I see them. You will find this genre a major part of my offerings here.
Currently, most of my technique is creative manipulation of digital files, be it a pop art effect (posterization example here), digital painting ("photo impressionism" example here), or compositing - combining different elements to create a mood or tell a story (here). Also offered here are "vintage" images created in the previous century that find new life by way of scanning - either the original negative or the silver print.
Being featured in a book on hand-coloring photographs (Handcoloring Photographs by James McKinnis, Amphoto, 1994) was an honor and a thrill, as well as being featured in Darkroom Photography magazine in the early '90's. I am honored to have my work in many private collections as well.
